If you follow me on Twitter, then you may have been aware late last night that I went to watch the Michael Jackson movie This Is It. While I can understand some of the Jackson family’s apprehension towards the film, I’m so happy us stans fans got the opportunity to see, at least in part what would have been a spectacular show (no pun intended).
I can’t speak on what went on behind the scenes as far as business is concerned, but I can assure you that there was an electric fervor in that O2 Arena about the adventure they were all about to embark upon. This goes for everyone, from the lighting crew, set designers, band to the dancers, even Kenny Ortega himself, who was extremely involved in every aspect of the production process. To me, there was only a dedicated passion and synergism generated by a pop legend, his longtime admirers and colleagues. The film is not a docufilm per se, it’s simply an attempt to give the audience a glimpse of what the actual show would have been.
Not surprisingly, it was Michael’s signature childlike charisma that captured my heart once again. Quirky one-liners stole the show as he meticulously picked at every detail. It’s true what you’ve heard, Michael was a perfectionist. The man had an innate understanding of his sound; he doesn’t miss a chord. Polite to a fault, it was hard to believe at times that you were watching the world’s biggest star at work. Even when he had an issue with his inner ear mic, he pointed out the matter, but noted that his criticism came from love. Then he spelled the word, “L-O-V-E.”
Love as always was the focal point of the operation, as is everything with Michael. Time and again we were reminded to love each other, and to bring love back to the planet. The only downfall to the film was that we never really got a chance to see a more personal MJ, the one on his downtime. It would have warmed my heart to see Jackson on his lunch break from rehearsal, eating Chipotle, and yelling at the tv when Maury tells Tyshaun that he’s not the father, but alas, one cannot have everything.
Conclusion: If you’re a Jackson fan, and are clamoring for anything MJ related that isn’t on your iTunes, record collection or on Youtube, this is it.

I stumbled upon your site while looking for other reviews of Michael Jackson’s “This Is It”. Like you, I also enjoyed the film and found Jackson’s perfectionism something to admire.
What I am hoping is that I can watch it one more time before it leaves the cinemas, but if not, it’s no big deal. At least I saw it once.
