Buju Banton Popped on Cocaine Charges

Via Miami Herald:  Jamaican reggae star Buju Banton is facing a drug charge in Florida. Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, has been in U.S. federal custody in Miami since Thursday. Drug Enforcement Administration spokesman David Melenkevitz said Sunday that Banton was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine. The charge stems from a DEA case in Tampa.

An e-mail to Banton’s independent record label was not immediately returned Sunday. Banton’s ninth album, “Rasta Got Soul,” is nominated for a Grammy. The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation launched an online petition protesting the nomination, saying some of Banton’s earlier lyrics have advocated violence against gay and transgender people.

Jamaican Cribs: Elephant Man (Le sigh…My People)

Author: Likkle Miss  //  Category: Come Home With Me, Le sigh..., LooseNeck Vids

When God gave some people talent, it did not mean it came with brains. And so it is with Elephant Man (see Soulja Boy and Yung Berg for additional references), here, he takes us on a tour of his UNFINISHED home. Instead of pointing out all the inconsistencies in this footage, I’d like to take this time to apologize on behalf of my people, translate and correct some of his wrongs. Hit the jump.

Cross-Dressing Thieves Run This Town

Where they do that at? Jamrock

In a developing trend, male criminals are disguising themselves as women before committing robberies, THE WEEKEND STAR has found….All of the victims were males and thought their robbers were women until hearing them speak and brandishing guns. Corporal Devon Young of the Manchester police said in the case committed at Bigwoods in the parish, the victim afterwards told investigators he had even approached and complimented the individual on being sexy. Little did he know he would eventually be relieved of $5,000, his cellphone and also slapped across the face after expressing his disgust at being robbed.

Damian Marley feat. Lil Wayne ‘The Mission’ (Remix)

The Mission Riddim is one of my FAVORITE riddims to come out last year. When Jay jumped on Mavado’s “On the Rock” I was floored, and again I’ve gotten another surprise. This might be late to my yardies, but new to those across the seas so give me a break if you’ve heard it before :) This is dope! Props to UHTN!

Beenie Man on the RuPaul Show

Author: Likkle Miss  //  Category: Come Home With Me, LooseNeck Vids, What Di Raas?!

Where exactly do I begin with this? For those of you who aren’t aware, Jamaica might be the most homophobic place on the planet, so this appearance (whenever it occurred) is shocking to say the least. The fact that VP Records sent this out into the viral universe themselves is a sign of the changing times. A check is a check….even if it comes from a cross-dressing fish. The warlord (Bounty Killer, Beenie’s arch nemesis) will have a field day with this, mark my words. This is the equivalent of 50 Cent catching Rick Ross working as a male stripper dressed in a cop uniform.

My only concern is why Beenie Man is dressed like a gay waiter from A Night at the Roxbury. Why? I’m gonna need an answer.

Sean Paul on 106th and Park

My my, dare I say my people have been shining like a new penny this week? Yes, it’s heartwarming to see the yardies on the telly without the usual dutty wining in a tree. *Side-eye at all the Passa Passa videos that made me switch my accent up with the quickness* (I will not be associated with such niggatry). Following the incredible success of our runners at the games (who gon’ check us boo?!) Sean hit up Rocsi and Terrence’s spot to promote his new album Imperial Blaze which drops today.

Sean, I love you, but please pick a twang and stick to it, all this back and forth is making my head spin. Don’t let them have to break out the subtitles like they do for Tiny.

World’s Human Lightning Bolt Does it Again

Author: Likkle Miss  //  Category: Come Home With Me, Looseneck LOVE, Looseneck News

Today presented one of those rare moments when all the wonders of this amazing city just can’t compete with being at home in my living room in Kingston watching my mother (who already needs tranquilizers) scream hysterically at the television as we witness the little country that could make history once again. Usain Bolt provided that moment for us once again when he broke his own world record in the 100 meter dash:

BERLIN (Reuters) - Jamaica’s Usain Bolt obliterated his own 100 metres world record to win the world championship final in a breathtaking 9.58 seconds on Sunday. The world’s fastest man took a staggering 0.11 seconds off the 9.69 mark he set winning gold at the Beijing Olympics a year ago to the day, taking the event into a time zone undreamed of before his arrival on the scene.

“Today was perfect. This gave me a lot of energy. Especially the crowd,” Bolt said through the stadium microphone, immediately after the race. “I won’t forget it.”

The world won’t forget. Sometimes Jamaica, just sometimes (when you’re not wildin’ out and showing your crotches in Passa Passa videos, and not having weave fights in the club), you make me so proud. Bolt to di flippin’ werllllll!
Mummy…..please settle down….
